The Telangana government has announced a major push to strengthen its public healthcare system by procuring advanced medical equipment for hospitals across the state.
Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha stated that the initiative aims to align healthcare facilities with Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). The announcement came during a discussion in the State Assembly, where concerns were raised about the shortage of modern equipment in government hospitals.
To address these gaps, the government is equipping district hospitals with high-end diagnostic and life-support systems. Currently, several key hospitals—including Osmania, Gandhi, MGM, and RIMS—are already using 1.5 Tesla MRI machines. Across Telangana, hospitals are operating 39 CT scan machines, 1,770 ventilators, and 195 X-ray units.
Further strengthening the infrastructure, the state is in the process of procuring advanced equipment. Plans include the installation of eight 3 Tesla MRI machines in major hospitals located in cities such as Nizamabad, Siddipet, Suryapet, and Nalgonda. Additionally, seven 128-slice CT scan machines will be deployed in districts like Nirmal, Kamareddy, and Jayashankar, along with a new CT scan unit for the Government General Hospital in Mulugu. The government is also procuring 485 additional ventilators to enhance critical care capacity.
Alongside infrastructure upgrades, the state is also focusing on strengthening human resources in healthcare. Since December 2023, over 2,200 doctors have been appointed across district hospitals, including assistant professors, specialists, and civil assistant surgeons.
The government plans to fill an additional 2,278 vacancies by April 2026, further boosting medical staffing levels. Currently, nearly 3,921 specialist doctors are already serving in district hospitals across Telangana.
This dual focus on advanced equipment and increased manpower is expected to significantly improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the state.
